QUANTITY SURVEYOR
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The purpose of this role is to ensure that the MMG-Khoemacau Expansion project is delivered on budget. The role will be a core member of the project team, responsible for front-to-end cost management and control, from the initial project stages through to final settlement functions, including prepared baseline quantities, tracking and monitoring changes, construction cost forecasting and analysis, evaluating cost impact on changes, monitoring productivities, trend analysis, and final settlement.
MAJOR DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Key accountabilities include:
Participating and assisting in the development of detailed and accurate project capital estimation, and budgets.
• Performing quantity take-offs and preparing Bills of quantities (BOQ).
• Preparing tender documents and participating in the tendering and evaluation process.
• Assisting in contract negotiations; preparing and reviewing construction contracts.
• Reviewing contractors’ progress payment applications; validating and submitting interim payment applications.
• Monitoring actual costs, conducting variance analysis against the budget costs, identifying cost overrun risks, and proposing solutions.
• Handling variation orders, site instructions, and claims, assessing their cost impact.
• Preparing regular quantity reports and construction forecasts and reporting the measured construction status.
• Analysing cost variances, investigating the reasons for deviations, and providing clear analysis.
• Regularly updating the Estimate at Completion (EAC) based on project progress and trends, collaborating with all stakeholders.
• Forecasting potential future cost overrun risks and issuing early warnings.
• Assessing the cost impact of project change requests and assisting in adjusting budgets for changes.
• Ensuring that all changes are formally approved and reflected in the updated budget pool.
• Participating in improving cost control processes, tools, and templates to enhance the efficiency of cost management across the project team.
• Preparing final settlement documents upon project completion and settle final accounts with contractors.
• Being visible in the field, conducting frequent interactions with operations teams/contractors to understand work being done, and identifying opportunities to improve.
• Always demonstrating safe behaviors and comply with the site’s standards and procedures in SHEC.
• Promoting awareness of SHEC practices and imbed a safety culture.
• Demonstrating effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals that support the department site and company standards.
• Demonstrating leadership in SHEC through personal behaviours and conversations and reporting all SHEC incidents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Good written and spoken Chinese and English skills.
• Holding a Cost Engineer qualification or other equivalent professional certification is preferred.
• International Driving License.
• At least 5 years of experience in quantity surveyor in the construction/engineering within energy industrial projects, experience in Mining industry or Concentrator Project is preferable.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and negotiation skills.
• Team player capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• On site experience in the countries in Southern Africa is preferable.
