Lucara Botswana (Pty) Ltd owns the Karowe Diamond Mine in Letlhakane, which operates an Open Pit Mine and is now transitioning into an Underground operation. The envisaged underground operation is currently undergoing construction in which two vertical shafts (Production and Ventilation) are being sunk and will be followed by lateral development and subsequent ore extraction.
To this end, Lucara Botswana invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the following position, tenable in Letlhakane and become part of this exciting underground mine development. Please note that this position is project – based.
SHIFT BOSS (HIGH SPEED DEVELOPMENT)
Job Summary
Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Shift Boss (High-Speed Development) will oversee the day-to-day performance, coordination, management, and maintenance of the assigned mining shift. The role aims to achieve maximum productivity, efficiency, quality, service, and profitability for the organization while ensuring legal compliance and upholding high safety standards
Effectiveness Areas
- Oversee and supervise daily underground mining activities
- Coordinate drilling, blasting, mucking, and material handling operations.
- Conduct pre-shift briefings, assign tasks, and monitor workforce performance.
- Inspect work areas for hazards and take immediate corrective action where necessary.
- Maintain accurate shift reports, including production data, incidents, and personnel matters.
- Organize teams, coordinate shifts, and manage scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards

Qualifications and Experience
- BGCSE equivalent qualification.
- Shift Boss Certificate of Competency.
- Underground Blasting Certificate.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground mining operations, with proven experience in a Shift Boss role.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a trackless mining environment in decline sinking shaft in high-speed development.
- Knowledge of mining standards and operating procedures
