AREA LEAD
BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Area Lead will monitor, and control quality and adequacy of the design prepared within the functional discipline. This includes reviewing data for validity, directing optimization and technical studies, verifying design documents and specifications, and providing support and clarification in the discipline/area of operation. Guide and engage with the EPCM to ensure client facility and operational requirements are met. Support the Operational Readiness (OR) Manager and the Commissioning Manager driving the project to operational maturity.
MAJOR DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:
Supporting the scoping of services and the development of a strategic implementation plan for the responsible area.
• Serving as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders within the designated area, including project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients.
• Reviewing all quality assurance processes applied in the area of responsibility and ensuring that these are implemented both during the design and construction phases.
• Facilitating regular process meetings to discuss project status, challenges, and solutions.
• Assisting in compilation of monthly reporting to Senior Project Manager, Exco and the Board.
• Ensuring that all engineering designs and specifications meet industry and MMG- Khoemacau standards.
• Ensuring that area specific standards are developed, socialized and approved and meets MMG-Khoemacau Standards.
• Participating in design- HAZOP and constructability reviews.
• Overseeing and coordinating all engineering, construction and commissioning activities within the designated area.
• Monitoring project progress and implementing corrective actions to address deviations from the plan.
• Providing technical oversight and ensuring that engineering designs meet project specifications and industry standards.
• Reviewing and approving engineering deliverables, construction plans and commissioning procedures.
• Addressing technical challenges and providing solutions to ensure the seamless integration of engineering, construction, and commissioning phases.
• Supporting the development and management of detailed project plans ensuring alignment with overall project timelines and objectives.
• Ensuring construction activities are executed safely, on time, and within budget.
• Collaborating with contractors and subcontractors to manage resources, materials, and equipment.
• Conducting daily site inspections to ensure compliance with construction plans and quality standards.
• Managing the allocation and utilization of resources, including personnel, materials, and equipment, to ensure efficient project execution.
• Identifying and addressing any resource constraints that may impact project timelines or quality.
• Collaborating with procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
• Developing and overseeing the execution of commissioning plans, ensuring all systems and components are tested and validated according to project requirements.
• Collaborating with engineering and construction teams to resolve issues identified during commissioning.
• Ensuring proper documentation of all commissioning activities and results.
• Ensuring all project documentation, including engineering designs, construction records, and commissioning reports, is accurately maintained and updated.
• Preparing and submitting regular status reports to senior management, highlighting key achievements, risks, and issues.
• Maintaining comprehensive records of all project activities and decisions for future reference.
• Identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing best practices to enhance project efficiency and outcomes.
• Encouraging a culture of continuous improvement among team members and contractors.
• Staying updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and standards to ensure the project benefits from innovative solutions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Master’s degree in project management, Engineering Management, or a related field is an added advantage.
• Professional Engineer (PE) License or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
• Additional certifications in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2) and HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) are advantageous.
• 10+ years of experience in engineering, mining, or related fields, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing large-scale, multidisciplinary projects.
• Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary teams through all project phases, from conceptual stage, pre-feasibility, feasibility, to implementation and closeout.
• Extensive experience in engineering design, quality assurance, construction management, and commissioning of mining projects.
• Strong technical expertise and hands-on experience with engineering software and tools relevant to mining and project management.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to mining, engineering, and safety
