About the Role
The Accountant will play a central role in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring compliance with Botswana’s accounting standards, and providing accurate financial insights for executive decision-making. The position requires strong analytical ability, hands-on accounting experience, and a deep understanding of the retail industry’s financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, interpret, and present complex financial data for senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Deliver accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Identify and resolve financial discrepancies through detailed analytical reviews.
- Manage statutory tax obligations including Withholding Tax, VAT, PAYE, and Income Tax, ensuring compliance with BURS regulations.
- Oversee payroll management, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Botswana labour and tax laws.
- Lead and support internal and external audits, while ensuring compliance with evolving financial regulations.
- Utilize SAP or similar ERP systems to improve financial processes and reporting efficiency.
Requirements
- BICA registration (mandatory).
- Minimum of 5+ years’ work experience, preferably in the retail sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Additional relevant accounting qualifications will be considered.
- Progress toward or completion of ACCA is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience handling tax processes (Withholding Tax, VAT, PAYE, Income Tax).
- Proficiency in SAP or similar accounting software and ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience in audits and compliance within Botswana’s financial regulations.
