About BOTEPCO
BOTEPCO is a regulatory authority established under the Teaching Professionals Council Act No. 22 of 2019. Its mandate includes regulating the teaching profession, maintaining ethical standards, licensing teachers, setting teaching standards, and overseeing professional conduct across Botswana’s education system.

Contract Duration: Five (5) years
Role Purpose
The Director will lead BOTEPCO’s strategy, planning, and research functions. The role involves translating the BOTEPCO Act into actionable strategies and standards, overseeing research, managing policy development, and ensuring the advancement of teacher professionalisation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy & Planning
- Translate the BOTEPCO Act into strategies, policies, and programmes
- Oversee review and implementation of teaching regulations and standards
- Facilitate research and support decision-making through statistical findings
2. Policy Development
- Develop and disseminate teaching profession regulations and standards
- Support ethical and professional conduct monitoring
- Lead teaching accreditation requirements
3. Research Standards & Quality Assurance
- Manage Council research activities
- Collaborate with institutions to promote teacher professionalisation
- Implement research standards and procedures
4. Performance Monitoring
- Monitor strategy implementation and performance indicators
- Prepare departmental reports and strategic assessments
5. Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with BEC, BQA, HRDC and other education stakeholders
- Promote teaching standards and regulatory compliance
6. Finance, Human Capital & Risk
- Oversee departmental expenditure
- Lead performance management and staff development
- Ensure implementation of risk and internal control frameworks
Qualifications & Experience
- Postgraduate degree in Education, Research, Public Policy, Strategy, or related field
- Minimum 15 years’ experience, with 10 at senior leadership level
- Experience in education sector regulation and policy development
- Teaching or regulatory institution experience is an added advantage
