Control and Instrumentation Technician at MMG-KHOEMACAU COPPER MINING

The positions are based at the Mine Site located between Maun and Sehithwa in Ngamiland.

CONTROL AND INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Control and Instrumentation Technician will be responsible for routine and advanced maintenance, troubleshooting and optimisation of instrumentation, control and automation systems. The role ensures accurate measurement, reliable process control and high plant availability by supporting PLC, SCADA, communication and field instrumentation systems. It involves performing planned and corrective maintenance work, resolving control system issues and maintaining compliance with engineering, safety and operational standards across all work areas.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your key accountabilities include:

  • Performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimisation of field instrumentation, PLC, SCADA, communication systems, and related control equipment.
  • Diagnosing control system faults and troubleshooting plant performance anomalies using PLC/SCADA systems and historian data.
  • Conducting system backups, software updates, patching, and hardware/software compatibility checks on control systems.
  • Ensuring high-quality programming and configuration of Siemens PLCs and Citect SCADA systems.
  • Assisting in programming and troubleshooting of VSDs and fibre optic mine communication networks.
  • Supporting the development and executing preventative maintenance strategies for digital control systems.
  • Establishing and applying standards for system upgrades, testing, and maintenance in line with engineering and safety protocols in line with engineering and safety protocols.
  • Supporting E&I maintenance teams and coordinating SCADA/PLC software requirements.
  • Overseeing the work of contractors on the MMG Khoemacau control system, ensuring compliance with Khoemacau standards and procedures for undertaking specific work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

  • National Diploma in Control and Instrumentation/ Electrical/ Industrial Automation and Control Systems or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience working as a Control Systems or Instrumentation Technician in a continuous plant operation environment
  • Proven experience with Profinet, Profibus network, Siemens PLC’s, Pi Historian, Citect SCADA 2018 R2, and AutoCAD
  • Formal certification in PLC programming software is an added advantage
