Mine Production Geologist at MMG-KHOEMACAU COPPER MINING

The positions are based at the Mine Site located between Maun and Sehithwa in Ngamiland.

MINE PRODUCTION GEOLOGIST

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
The Mine Production Geologist will be responsible for supporting the mine operations, to collect, interpret and report on production geology issues, including logging / sampling core, wireframing, modelling, grade/tonnage estimations and reconciliations in alignment with the organization’s long-term objectives.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensuring that all core is logged and sampled within the production timelines.
  • Ensuring that all underground excavations are inspected during mining at regular intervals and that suitable control is maintained.
  • Monitoring material movements accurately through the mine to the mill and take an proactive approach towards minimising dilution and maximising ore recovery.
  • Ensuring underground excavations are geologically mapped and data communicated in a standard set by the Senior Production Geologist.
  • Proactively participating in geology interpretation including fault, structure, orebody and other geological features and ensure wireframing is completed accurately.
  • Providing assistance to the Senior Production Geologist in the management of diamond drill programs, including design, documentation, and coordination of programs and sites, and assistance with contractor management.
  • Participating in reporting and communication for the mine geology team, including ensuring the delivery of clear and concise handover documents in the event of absences from work.
  • Ensuring that data is collected accurately and that the data is entered into the database in a timely manner.
  • Managing ROM pad stocks and routinely reconcile results with mine and mill.
  • Assisting the Senior Production Geologist with estimating tonnes / grade, updating grade control model and reconciliation monitoring.
  • Communicating with other site technical, operational, support and managerial teams.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective communication with all drill contractors to ensure production objectives are met.
  • Implementing and adhering to systems, processes and procedures to ensure quality management.
  • Ensuring that geological activities are conducted within budget and the cost control framework.
  • Complying with data collection standards in respect to both the JORC code and NI-43-101 requirements.
  • Assisting with contributions for daily, weekly and monthly reporting on geological activities.
  • Ensuring that plans / sections are generated and kept up to date for the current grade control drilling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Minimum 2 year’s post graduate geological experience in an underground hard rock environment.
  • Proficient in the use of mine software packages (Datamine and Leapfrog preferred)
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft software including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
