Assistant Power Technician (5-Year Contract, Tenable in Francistown)
Reporting to the Power and Mechanical Services Engineer, the incumbent will assist engineers in planning, operating and maintaining power, cooling, and environmental monitoring systems at BoFiNet telecommunication sites to ensure maximum system availability and efficiency.
Key Performance Areas
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on power backup systems.
- Support engineers in implementing maintenance schedules.
- Maintain and update maintenance records.
- Ensure telecommunication sites’ environmental monitoring systems are operational.
- Attend to telecommunication sites’ power systems alarms and perform necessary corrective maintenance.
- Support diagnostics and troubleshooting efforts on-site.
- Conduct equipment replacements and minor repairs.
- Diagnose, service, repair and maintain standby and portable generators.
- Assist in the commissioning of new power systems and equipment.
Skills / Technical Abilities
- Power Backup: Knowledge in planning, maintenance and operation of power backup systems.
- Maintenance Execution: Understanding of general electrical, generator and cooling systems maintenance execution.
- Solar Power Systems: Knowledge in planning, maintenance and operation of solar power systems.
- Network Operations: Understanding of telecommunications network operations.
- Power Rectification: Knowledge of rectifiers, UPS, inverters and battery maintenance.
- Diesel Generators: Knowledge in operations and maintenance of standby and portable generators.

Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or related field.
- Additional qualification in the operation and maintenance of Diesel Generators is an added advantage.
- Full membership of a recognized professional body, e.g., ERB.
- Minimum of three (3) years post-qualification experience, one of which must be in the telecommunications industry.
