Training Officer (Maintenance) – SANDFIRE RESOURCES

The position is responsible for developing, facilitating and delivering structured training programs for maintenance personnel to meet the business needs.

The position is responsible for developing, facilitating and delivering structured training programs for maintenance personnel to meet the business needs. This role ensures that maintenance employees are equipped with the necessary technical knowledge, practical skills, and safety awareness to perform their tasks efficiently and safely.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Develops and implements comprehensive training plans aligned with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitates and conducts practical and theoretical training sessions on mechanical systems in line with assessment guidelines.
  • Establishes and conducts training needs analysis, gap assessments detailed objectives through post-training evaluations to identify competency gaps in the area of responsibility.
  • Develops and Roll out Safe Work Procedures (SWPs) and conducts competency assessments for all maintenance tasks.
  • Evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of the training programmes in the area of responsibility and recommends corrective action to training coordinator and line manager.
  • Reviews training material and programmes in area of responsibility, taking cognisance of new technological developments, modifications and methods and makes recommendations.
  • Facilitates statutory compliance training related to legal regulations and maintenance industry standards to improve maintenance team performance and assure compliance.
  • Provides positive mentoring and support to Maintenance Leading Hands and Supervisors.
  • Supervises trainees and provide coaching for skill improvement.
  • Manages and maintains both physical and electronic training records.
  • Compiles statistics to update training records in order to update departmental training database
  • Conducts Plant Inductions.
  • Liaises with appropriate training and government institutions to ensure compliance to legal requirements.

Qualification:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Registered as an Assessor or eligible to be registered.
  • Botswana Class B Drivers Licence

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience of which 3 years should have been at an Artisan level.
  • Plant Maintenance experience highly desirable.
  • 2 years’ experience in a training environment required
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in maintenance fields (Boilermaking, Fitting and Rigging trades).
