The position is responsible for supervising the IT team and overseeing the delivery of IT services across all Botswana sites.

The position is responsible for supervising the IT team and overseeing the delivery of IT services across all Botswana sites. This role ensures operational excellence in IT service delivery, governance, and security while aligning IT with business needs. The incumbent acts as a key liaison between IT and business units, supervises core business system operations, and supports IT projects to ensure operational readiness, risk management, and continuous improvement in IT processes and service delivery.

Key Performance Areas:

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the IT Technical Specialist, IT Security Specialist, and IT Administrator across all Botswana sites.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance support to IT staff.

IT Operations & Service Delivery

  • Supervise day-to-day IT operations, including infrastructure, networks, communications, end-user support, and cybersecurity.
  • Ensure IT incidents are resolved promptly, with effective escalation and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate IT asset registers and oversee lifecycle management of IT equipment.

Business Systems & Integration

  • Work closely with business units to understand core business systems.
  • Supervise and coordinate implementations, integrations, developments, improvements, and administration of these systems.
  • Ensure business requirements are clearly understood, prioritized, and addressed by IT solutions.

Governance, Security & Risk Management

  • Ensure adherence to IT policies, standards, governance frameworks, and security requirements.
  • Align with Group in the Implementation and maintenance of the IT disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity plans.
  • Align with Group IT and track identified IT business risks and ensure timely resolution.
  • Identify gaps in IT service delivery to operations and develop procedures to address them, ensuring effective rollout across IT and business teams.

Financial & Vendor Management

  • Assist in IT budgeting, procurement, and cost management.
  • Assist in vendor and service provider performance, ensuring SLA compliance and accountability.

Projects & Continuous Improvement

  • Support IT project delivery under the guidance of the IT Manager, ensuring effective resource coordination and operational readiness.
  • Promote IT best practices and deliver awareness/training sessions across the organization.

Reporting Responsibilities

  •  Prepare regular reports on IT operations, incidents, risks, and service delivery performance.
  • Assist the IT Manager with reports on IT budgeting, expenditure, vendor performance, and SLA compliance.
  • Provide updates and progress reports on IT projects, integrations, and system improvements.
  • Contribute to Group IT risk reporting by tracking IT-related risks and mitigation actions.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards or summaries highlighting IT performance, user support trends, and improvement areas.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or related discipline (industry certifications such as ITIL, PMP, Management Development Programme;MDP advantageous).

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ of progressive IT experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or lead role.
    • Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, and cybersecurity practices.
    • Experience with business systems implementation, integration, and administration.
    • Exposure to vendor management, procurement, and IT budgeting.
    • Familiarity with ITIL practices and IT governance frameworks (advantageous).

Technical/Behavioural Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to bridge IT and business functions, ensuring alignment between technology and operational requirements.
  • Experience implementing and enforcing IT governance, security policies, and compliance frameworks.
  • Mining or industrial operations experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with focus on service excellence.
