Sandfire Resources, a leading international mining company, continues to strengthen its operations in Botswana through the development of the Motheo Copper Mine in the Kalahari Copper Belt. Approved for commercial development in December 2020, this project represents a major milestone in Sandfire’s transformation into a global, diversified, and sustainable mining company.
The mine is owned and operated by Tshukudu Metals Botswana (Pty) Limited (TMB), a wholly owned subsidiary of Sandfire Resources. Once fully operational, Motheo Copper Mine is expected to produce up to 30,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per year over a 12-year lifespan. With initial development starting in 2021–2022 and first production in 2023, Motheo has become one of Botswana’s most significant mining projects.
