Summary:

The position is responsible for managing the mining contract and all mining related activities for the Motheo Copper Mine, to achieve safe, efficient and cost effective mine production.

Description:

Key Performance Areas

• Lead life of Mine, annual budget, quarterly planning and cash flow model development to align operational output with financial goals. Implement risk mitigation strategies to support sustainable and efficient production.
• Oversee performance, safety, and cost compliance of the mining contractor. Lead governance processes, manage commercial aspects, and ensure accurate claim and payment reviews in line with contractual obligations.
• Manage and guide the Mine planning & Engineering, Survey, and Geotechnical teams. Drive technical excellence and ensure alignment with operational priorities.
• Develop and maintain robust systems and processes for operational reporting, regulatory compliance, planning, optimisations and standard operating procedures.
• Develop and manage departmental budgets and forecasts with disciplined cost control. Ensure accurate cost tracking, modelling, and present monthly financial performance reports.
• Foster a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with the regulations and company HSE standards across all mining operational activities.
• Champion leadership development and team capability building. Mentor and inspire a high-performing, safety-focused workforce.

Qualifications:

• A Degree in Mining from a recognised University.
• Post-graduate studies highly regarded (Hons / MSc).
• Registered with the Engineers Registration Board or similar.

Experience:

• Botswana Open Pit Blasting Licence or similar.
• Minimum of 20 years post qualification mining experience covering all aspects of mining, with at least 5 years open pit mining experience.
• A minimum of 10 years in a frontline management leadership role.
• International Experience desirable.

Technical/Behavioural Competencies:

• Working knowledge of the Botswana Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Regulations.
