Nurse Midwife (Molepolole site) – BHP

We seek a motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive individual with a keen interest in research to join the Botswana Sexual and Reproductive Health Initiative (BSRHI) as a Nurse Midwife.

BSRHI is a research programme at the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership (BHP) which aims to address important research questions to improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH) outcomes among women and adolescent girls. We conduct research, provide clinical SRH services, and undertake teaching and training.

Job Purpose
The Nurse Midwife will be involved in the implementation of BSRHI studies. The role will require conducting antenatal and postnatal care visits with pregnant women. A good understanding of study protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and active collaboration with various team members for the successful delivery of the studies.

Key Responsibilities:
• Working closely with team members including the programme manager, study co-ordinator, study physicians and research assistants for the proper implementation and monitoring of study protocols.
• Facilitating and aiding in recruitment, consenting and follow up of participants.
• Conducting antenatal and postnatal care visits with study participants.
• Providing counselling, care, and treatment to participants who enrol in BSRHI studies including STI management and family planning counselling.
• Collecting specimens for STI testing, including performing vaginal, urethral and genital ulcer swabs, in accordance with study protocols.
• Drawing blood from study participants (venepuncture) in accordance with the study’s protocol.
• Prescribing and dispensing study medications.
• Maintaining confidentiality of all participant study information.
• Assisting with maintenance of research supply stock.
• Assisting in the preparation of study materials including translation of study related documents.
• Completing questionnaires and case report forms in accordance with the study’s protocol and entering data accurately into an electronic database.
• Participant retention and follow up (including occasional home visits).
• Reviewing and filing of study forms.
• Participating in continued site training.
• Identifying challenges to study implementation and report to the Study Coordinator/Programme Manager/PI on a regular basis.
• Undertaking any other duties, as assigned by the Programme Manager or PI.

Qualifications and experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Midwifery.
• A minimum of three(3) years’ experience in midwifery and knowledge of sexual transmitted infection and family planning methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Setswana (fluency required).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office packages.

NB: Tenable in Molepolole.
