The Botswana Trade Commission (BOTC) is a Parastatal under the Ministry of Trade and Entrepreneurship (MTE), established in 2013 through an act of Parliament pursuant to Article 14 of the SACU Agreement of 2002. The mandate of BOTC is to provide for an efficient and effective system for the administration and facilitation of international trade, to regulate the import and export of goods, to provide for the implementation of the SACU Agreement and to provide for matters incidental thereto. This is done with an aim to promote fair trade and industry competitiveness. The Commission wishes to attract Botswana Citizens who are results-oriented individuals and driven by a passion for excellence into the following position:
ACCOUNTANT I
Main Purpose of the Job
To ensure all financial records and statements are in line with laws, regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles. Records financial statements, balance sheet, profit and loss statement, cash-flow statement, and tax returns.
Position Requirements
Qualifications
• Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business plus ACCA, CIMA.
Experience
• At least eight (8) years post-qualification experience, two (2) of which should have been at supervisory level.
• Experience working in a computerised accounting environment is required.

• BICA membership
Key Job Responsibilities
• Provides financial information to management by researching and analysing accounting data and preparing reports.
• Prepares asset, liability, and capital account entries by compiling and analysing account information.
• Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
• Summarises current financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports.
• Maintains accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
• Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analysing account information.
• Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analysing, and summarizing account information and trends.
• Prepares payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
• Maintains financial security by following internal controls.
• Updates fixed assets register and ensures their balances tie with the balances in the general ledger for effective reporting of BOTC’s assets and ensure compliance with international reporting standards.
• Provides management with accounting management information.
• Adheres to performance management cycle deadlines, identifies own training and development needs.
