This position is responsible for maintaining and nurturing the community relationships by delivering the company’s vision within the local communities both internal, external and beyond.

The Community Relations Manager is responsible for promoting the Company image and maintaining productive & mutual relationships with key stakeholders (such as media, government representatives at district level, farmers), local community groups, the NGO Community, local business community and the public, inter alia. This position reports to the Head of Sustainability & Corporate Affairs.

Key Performance Areas. 

Stakeholder (community) Engagement Plan

  • Develop and facilitate community engagement forums and other necessary engagement frameworks, through an integrated Stakeholder Management Plan.
  • Develop local stakeholder database by Identification and profiling local stakeholders.
  • Develop stakeholder engagement feedback mechanisms to the host communities.
  • Manages public and stakeholder relationships i.e., local authorities, holding consultations and regular briefings on Company operations, activities, future plans, and their impacts on stakeholders.
  • Coordinate community outreach activities and stakeholder engagements through various platforms to build trust, to position the Business and enhance its reputation.
  • Participate in social and environmental impact assessments, biodiversity surveys and provide appropriate advice to management on actions to take and possible consequences.
  • Formulate corporate social responsibility programmes, considering identified gaps in social service delivery, outlining objectives.
  • Compile reports and reporting on the grievances raised by various stakeholders and implement risk mitigation strategies to address the grievances as per grievance mechanism.

Strategic External & Internal Relationships

  • Coordinate cross linkages and operational efficiency with the TMB & TEX Teams
  • Ensure the Co community relations and stakeholder engagements and processes as well as facilitation support the Sandfire strategic objectives

Social Commitment

  • Create and maintain a detailed profile of the host communities.
  • Develop a community investment strategy and create a detailed Community Investment Plan for the host communities. Manage the implementation of the Community investment plan and monitor projects for changes to progress, budget, scope, or risks.
  • Review and update the Community Investment Plan annually to ensure it aligns with the Community Investment Strategy.
  • Report on the status of Community investment projects.
  • Advise management on any social risks and issues that may have material effect on the business.
  • Develop and maintain a Social and Human Rights risks and impacts register associated with the Business Units activities.

Safety & Environment

  • Comply with safety, health and environment policy and procedures
  • Directs the compliance to SHE policies and procedures within the Business Unit, and causes appropriate remedial action to be taken in case of deviations

Subordinate Effectiveness

  • Manage career paths of subordinates with the view to build capacity for the future
  • Approves subordinates’ training and attachments and coordinates the processes
  • Monitor succession plans and determine actions to be taken to ensure business continuity whilst subordinates are on training/attachment staff development.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Economics, Environmental or Agricultural Sciences, Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or related disciplines
  • 5-10 years relevant experience in a dynamic environment with exposure in;
