This position is responsible for managing, optimizing, and providing technical oversight on the geological database systems.
This position is responsible for managing, optimizing, and providing technical oversight on the geological database systems, ensuring the accurate and timely input, storage, and retrieval of all geological data. Specifically, the Database Geologist is responsible for developing and maintaining database standards, data governance policies, and best practices that support exploration, grade control, resource estimation, and compliance with industry standards.
Key Performance Areas:
- Maintain a validated and updated geological database required for geological modelling.
- 100% Compliance with SFR’s HSES policies and procedures.
- Proficient in SQL, Datashed, LogChief and QAQCR.
- Compile, migrate and load collar, survey, sampling, assay, geological, and related data into SQL database, following best practice QA/QC protocols.
- Maintain and produce weekly and monthly drill, sampling and assay statistics, accruals and reports.
- Create and maintain SQL/BI reports.
- Design and maintain Datashed import and export layouts and templates, keeping them up to date ensuring that they are available and accessible to Mine Geology Team to support efficient data management and reporting.
- Maintain software configuration (DataShed, LogChief, QAQCR, Ocris, Sample Dispatch Tool, Change Request Tool and Data Validation Tool and equivalents).
- Routine backup and restoring databases.
- Maintain client relationships and ensuring trust and integrity in the data.
- Collate daily drilling and costing data from field staff, ensuring accuracy and timely submission for operational reporting.
- Files, archives, and maintains all reports electronically (Document Management).
- Manages data flow within the Section and between departments.
- Ensure laboratory performance by championing routine laboratory audits in collaboration with Mine Geologists and provides Lab audit report to the Geology team.
- QAQC management and reporting
- Manages a secure data repository for all Geology Production datasets.
- Keep ledger books showing data captured onto database.
- Validates and makes corrections to captured data in consultation with Geologists.
- Liaise with Production Geologists regarding submitted data to discuss observed anomalies.
Technical Competencies
- Proficient in Datashed
- Competent in writing T-SQL, SQL Reporting, database querying and management
- Experience in using the Microsoft Azure environment
- Managing database objects using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
- Ability to interpret and present complex Geological data clearly.

Qualification & Experience:
- Degree in Geology or equivalent
- At least 8 years post qualification experience in a similar role
- Background in mining practices is desirable
