Overview:
Redpath Botswana, a subsidiary of Redpath – the world’s premier full-service underground mining contractor, is seeking nine (9) Diesel Fitters for the Jwaneng Underground Mining Development Project. The role is essential in ensuring that all mobile and fixed mechanical equipment on-site is maintained according to approved safety standards, maximizing mechanical availability and reliability.
This is a full-time position that plays a critical role in maintaining the efficiency and productivity of underground mining operations, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to a world-class mining project.
Key Responsibilities:
-Maintain the mechanical integrity and safety of all mobile and fixed equipment on-site.
-Keep the Advisor informed about the state of equipment in the mine, especially potential problem areas.
-Perform scheduled servicing of equipment as per maintenance schedules.
-Carry out equipment repairs efficiently while ensuring work meets required standards.
-Execute tasks assigned by the supervisor promptly and efficiently.
-Correctly use and maintain all tools and equipment while performing duties.
-Maintain and enhance skills and knowledge to competently perform required duties.
-Assist operational and trades teams as needed and within competencies.
-Ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices in underground mining operations.
Requirements and Skills:
- Educational Qualifications:
- National Craft Certificate in Diesel Mechanics or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ underground mining experience as a Diesel Fitter.
- Extensive experience in maintenance and repair of mobile equipment used in underground mining.
- Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s Licence.
- First Aid & CPR certification.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge and application of safe and reliable mechanical maintenance practices to maximize equipment availability and productivity.
- In-depth knowledge of contemporary underground mining practices to enhance safety and productivity.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults on a variety of diesel-powered equipment.
- Other Requirements:
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and in challenging underground mining conditions.
- Strong communication skills to effectively report equipment status and maintenance needs.
- Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with operational and trades teams.
