Digital Embroidery Trainer

The incumbent will be responsible for training and supporting users in digital embroidery techniques, ensuring the effective and safe use of embroidery machines and design software. The trainer will facilitate hands-on learning experiences, assist in creative project development, and promote innovation in textile fabrication within the FabLab Solidaire.

The main duties include but are not limited to:

  • Training & Technical Support
  • Design and conduct training sessions on digital embroidery, covering machine operation, embroidery software, and design techniques.
  • Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to users, including students, startups, and professionals.
  • Assist participants in designing and executing embroidery projects, from concept to final product.
  • Ensure proper handling, maintenance, and safety procedures for digital embroidery machines.
  • Develop instructional materials, including guides, tutorials, and documentation. FabLab Solidaire Operations & Community Engagement
  • Organize and promote workshops, events, and collaborative projects related to digital embroidery.
  • Maintain and manage embroidery equipment, ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Enforce safety guidelines and ensure compliance with internal regulations.
  • Support and mentor startups, designers, and students in textile innovation projects.
  • Document best practices, project outcomes, and technical processes for community sharing.
  • Foster collaboration with other FabLabs and textile-focused innovation spaces

 

Skills and competencies:

  • Strong autonomy, initiative, and organizational skills
  • Active participation in a technology or design club is a plus
  • Knowledge of project management and the ability to work with technical experts
  • Pedagogical skills to conduct training and provide project support
  • This position requires an enthusiastic trainer who is passionate about digital embroidery, eager to empower users, and committed to fostering a culture of creativity and innovation within the ODC.
  • Passion for innovation, creativity, and emerging technologies in textile arts

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in fashion, textile technology, industrial design, or related fields. A Masters Degree would be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in digital embroidery or textile fabrication
  • Experience in managing creative projects or training programs
  • Proficiency in digital embroidery machines and related software
  • Experience with embroidery digitizing software (e.g., Wilcom, Hatch, Brother PE-Design)
  • Understanding of fabric types, stitching techniques, and design optimization
  • Familiarity with open-source design tools and textile-based digital fabrication
