This role is responsible for the execution and operational delivery of Sandfire’s exploration programs across one of the company’s high-priority regional hubs in the Kalahari Copperbelt.
The position provides hands-on leadership in the planning, mobilisation, and execution of field activities, ensuring programs are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with Sandfire’s technical and operational standards.
The incumbent will also oversee the Tshukudu Exploration (Tex) support functions in-country, ensuring alignment between field execution, data management, and technical systems to drive consistent, high-quality outcomes. This is a key delivery role that blends operational leadership with field execution, supporting the advancement of Sandfire’s regional exploration strategy and the growth of our exploration programmes.
Key Performance Areas:
- Lead the execution of exploration and drilling programs, ensuring delivery against scope, schedule, safety, and budget expectations.
- Providing day-to-day operational leadership and decision-making support.
- Oversee the TEx support functions, ensuring effective coordination of data management, systems, logistics, and administrative support for exploration activities.
- Translate exploration strategies into executable field plans, coordinating resources and managing contractors to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Monitor project progress, track milestones, and resolve operational issues to maintain program momentum and ensure timely delivery.
- Promote and embed a proactive safety culture, ensuring Safe Working Practices are consistently applied across all field operations.
- Collaborate closely with in-country geologists, contractors, and the Perth-based Technical Team to maintain alignment between technical design and field execution.
- Identify and mitigate operational, technical, and logistical risks, escalating as required to ensure continuity of exploration activities.
- Support team capability development through on-the-ground supervision, mentoring, and skills transfer in geological logging, data interpretation, and system use.
- Coordinate internal reporting and presentations, providing timely updates on program progress, resource use, and exploration results.
- Foster collaboration and accountability within the Botswana Exploration Team, ensuring strong alignment with Sandfire’s global exploration and TEx standards.

Qualification & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in geology or a related field
- 10+ years relevant mineral exploration and geological experience.
- Exploration Management and a track record of skills-transfer/staff training/development.
- Sound knowledge of exploration methods and relevant Geological/Mineralisation models – of relevance include Sediment-hosted base metal deposits and IOCG mineralisation, essential.
