Applications are invited to fill the vacancy of Head Of Safety & Sustainability (Re-Advertisement), a role central to execution of MCM’s bold, ambitious, and exciting strategy and drive achievement of Zero Harm in its operations.
Main Purpose of the Job:
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, with responsibility for developing, implementing, and managing the safety, health and sustainability strategy, policies and procedures as well as evaluating the Company’s current and future environmental impact. This includes championing the company’s sustainable practices into the future, developing the decarbonisation strategy and roadmap with accountability for setting the standards and targets for the business, monitoring performance, and providing operational leadership and guidance.
Key Deliverables of the role:
Strategies & Programmes
- Develop and drive execution of Safety, Health and Environment, decarbonisation and community relations strategies and programmes.
- Identify and lead digital transformation initiatives and implementation of latest technologies.
Policies & Projects
- Define the Mine’s SHE agenda; set parameters for the development, implementation and monitoring of relevant programmes and reporting systems.
- Formulate and lead the implementation of safety policies and protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
- Define and execute SHE and sustainability projects, including Mine closure and rehabilitation programmes in accordance with best practice principles.
- Oversee the portfolio of energy efficiency and energy supply initiatives.
- Develop and execute innovative solutions to reduce carbon emissions and environmental impact.
- Develop an emergency preparedness stakeholder plan.
Compliance & Assurance
- Ensure legal compliance of Mine processes and alignment to ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 standards requirements.
- Manage the SHE quality assurance programme in accordance with set governance protocols and principles.
Culture & People

Minimum Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Health, and Environment Management or equivalent qualification. Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
- Management Development Programme, Certified Safety Professional, Sustainability and Climate Risk (SCR) Certificate and Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) will be an added advantage.
- I0+ Years relevant experience with 3 years at managerial level.
- Knowledge of SHE Management System ISO 4500 I: 2018 and ISO 1400 I: 2015.
