Mining Manager at SANDFIRE RESOURCES

This includes oversight of strategic mine planning (Life-of-Mine, budgeting and short-term scheduling), contractor performance, technical services, and operational decision-making. The role plays a key part in ensuring safe, sustainable, and cost-effective production through disciplined cost management, effective risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and strong contractor engagement. The Mine Manager will champion technical and operational excellence, enhance system and procedures, and foster a high-performance, safety-focused culture across the mining operation.

Key Performance Areas:

Strategic Mine Planning:

• Lead life of Mine, annual budget, quarterly planning and cash-flow model development to align operational output with financial goals.
• Implement risk mitigation strategies to support sustainable and efficient production.

Contractor Management:

• Oversee performance, safety, and cost compliance of the mining contractor.
• Lead governance processes, manage commercial aspects, and ensure accurate claim and payment reviews in line with contractual obligations.

Technical Leadership:

• Manage and guide the Mine planning & Engineering, Survey, and Geotechnical teams.
• Drive technical excellence and ensure alignment with operational priorities.

Systems & Compliance:

• Develop and maintain robust systems and processes for operational reporting, regulatory compliance, planning, optimisations and standard operating procedures.

Financial Oversight:

• Develop and manage departmental budgets and forecasts with disciplined cost control.
• Ensure accurate cost tracking, modelling, and present monthly financial performance reports.

HSE Leadership:

• Foster a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with the regulations and company HSE standards across all mining operational activities.

People & Culture:

• Champion leadership development and team capability building.
• Mentor and inspire a high-performing, safety-focused workforce.

Technical Competencies

• Mine start-up and commissioning
• Working knowledge of the Botswana Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Regulations
• Sound knowledge of drill and blast and open pit mining methods
• Ability to perform in a production environment and work as part of a team.

Qualification & Experience

• A Degree in Mining from a recognised University.
• Registered with the Engineers Registration Board or similar.
• Botswana Open Pit Blasting Licence or similar.
• Minimum of 20 Years’ experience in open pit mining.
• A minimum of 10 years in a leadership role.
• Botswana Open Pit Blasting Licence or similar.
