VACANCY: PRINCIPAL URBAN PLANNER I – D2 – GABORONE X 1 POST
The Ministry of Environment and Tourism’s overall goal is to develop and implement policies, strategies and programmes to provide leadership and professional guidance on all matters pertaining to the conservation and management of the country’s environment and its natural resources for sustainable development and tourism.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Botswana Citizens for the
position in the Ministry Development Agency. of Environment and Tourism – Kasane/Kazungula
SALARY SCALE: D2 (P337,008 – P371,628 per annum)
LEAVE: BENEFITS 30 working days per annum.
• Optional contributory Medical Aid Scheme (Government pays 50% and Employee pays 50%)

QUALIFICATIONS: 36 months contract
Gratuity at the rate of 30% of contract earnings Degree in Urban Planning, Urban and Regional Planning or Town Planning. Master’s Degree in the above will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years work experience in urban planning and design. Demonstrable experience In urban planning and design projects Is required. Additionally, applicants must have demonstrable experience n the use of ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Sketchup, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Earth, Adobe InDesign and related design software. Evidence of this must be included in the application. Applicants without ArcGlS competence will not be considered.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Reporting to the Chief Planner, the Principal Planner will be responsible for the urban planning and design component of the Kasane/Kazungula Redevelopment Project, graphical representation of spatial data, urban design analysis, predefined planning and tourism planning.

•Preparing town planning and new housing proposals.
•Obtaining planning consent for proposals.
•Liaising with the planning team on the development of new site proposals.
•Keeping up to date with planning regulations, policy and legislation.
•Preparing supporting documentation for proposals including key data related to projects: land use, infrastructure support, demographic and costing facts and figures.
•Attending and presenting at proposal meetings, planning consent boards, appeal panels and pubSc inquiries.
•Preparing budgets and overseeing the financial administration of planning projects.
•Communicating with key stakeholders involved in the project including external and Government Agencies.
•Performing surveys and held studies where required.
•Maintaining continual professional development in accordance with the requirements of the professional institute.
