Risk Manager
The Risk Manager at Orange Botswana is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across the organization to ensure the company’s operational stability, regulatory compliance, and strategic objectives are achieved. This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive risk management frameworks, policies, and procedures, while fostering a risk-aware culture within the organization. The Risk Manager will work closely with senior management and various departments to provide insights and advice on risk-related issues, ensuring proactive risk mitigation strategies are in place. Additionally, this position aims to safeguard the company’s assets, reputation, and stakeholder interests by maintaining an effective enterprise risk management system aligned with industry’s best practices and regulatory requirements.
The main duties include but are not limited to:
- Risk Identification and Assessment – Conduct comprehensive risk assessments across all departments to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities. – Maintain and update a risk register that documents risks, their causes, and potential impacts
- Risk Analysis and Evaluation – Analyse identified risks to determine their likelihood and possible impact on organizational operations. – Prioritize risks based on severity and develop appropriate mitigation strategies accordingly.
- Risk Mitigation and Control – Develop, implement, and oversee risk mitigation plans and control measures. – Ensure the effective communication and enforcement of risk management policies and procedures throughout the organization.
- Monitoring and Reporting – Continuously monitor risk exposure levels and assess the effectiveness of risk mitigation measures. – Prepare and deliver comprehensive risk reports and dashboards to senior management and the Board for informed decision-making.
- Regulatory Compliance – Ensure the organization’s compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards. – Serve as a liaison with regulatory bodies and ensure timely and accurate reporting of risk-related information.
- Crisis Management and Business Continuity – Develop and maintain robust business continuity and disaster recovery plans. – Lead organizational response efforts during crises to minimize operational and reputational impacts.
- Training and Awareness – Promote a risk-aware culture within the organization through targeted training sessions and awareness campaigns. – Foster an understanding of risk management principles and best practices among staff and management.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Collaborate with internal departments, external partners, and stakeholders to align risk management strategies. – Provide expert advice and support on risk-related issues to aid strategic planning and decision-making.
Skills:
- Risk Management Expertise – Strong knowledge of risk assessment and mitigation techniques. – Familiarity with enterprise risk management (ERM) frameworks and industry best practices.
- Analytical Skills – Ability to identify and analyse complex risks and their potential impacts. – Proficiency in data analysis and risk modelling tools.
- Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge – Understanding of applicable regulatory environments and compliance requirements within the telecommunications and corporate Sales.
- Strategic Thinking – Ability to align risk management strategies with organizational goals and objectives. – Capability to foresee potential risks that could impact business operations.
- Communication Skills – Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively report risks and mitigation plans. – Ability to present complex risk concepts to non-specialist stakeholders.
- Decision-Making Abilities – Strong judgment and decision-making skills to recommend appropriate risk responses. – Ability to prioritize risks and allocate resources effectively.
- Problem-Solving Skills – Creative and practical approach to developing risk mitigation strategies. – Ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging risks and crises.
- Leadership and Influencing – Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence organizational risk culture. – Proactive in raising awareness and fostering a risk-conscious environment.
- Technical Proficiency – Knowledge of relevant software tools and systems used in risk management, such as risk registers, reporting tools, and data analysis platforms.
- Interpersonal Skills – Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills to collaborate with diverse teams and external partners.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business Administration,Economics, or related field.
- Masters Degree added advantage
- Professional Certifications such as
- Certified Risk Management Professional (CRMP)
- Certified Risk and Compliance Manangement Professional (CRFCMP)
- Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment (CISI) certifications
- Institute of Risk Management (IRM) qualifications
- Other relevant certifications in risk management, compliance, or internal audit
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in risk management, compliance, or a related field within the telecommunications, financial services, or corporate sectors.
- Experience working with regulatory bodies and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and standards.
- Prior experience in crisis management, business continuity planning, and incident response is highly desirable.
- Leadership experience in managing cross-functional teams and influencing organizational risk culture.
