This position is responsible for the execution and management of exploration programs within one of Sandfire’s high-priority regional hubs in the highly prospective Kalahari Copperbelt.

The position plays a critical role in the end-to-end delivery of exploration projects from planning and mobilisation through to execution, tracking progress against milestones, managing resources, and ensuring program outcomes are achieved on time, safely, and within budget. The role will also contribute technical insight into exploration design, data interpretation, and geological modelling to help shape the broader regional understanding and ongoing strategy.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Support the implementation of Sandfire’s Botswana exploration strategy by collaborating closely with in-country geologists and external consultants to ensure effective on-ground execution.
  • Partner with the Principal Geologist – Botswana and the broader exploration team to assess and prioritise opportunities across Botswana’s tenement package, as well as regional prospects.
  • Plan and oversee the execution of exploration and drilling programs in coordination with the Perth-based Technical Team and site-based geologists, ensuring programs are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture by promoting and embedding Sandfire’s Safe Working Practices in all aspects of field operations.
  • Drive the adoption and effective use of geological systems and processes in alignment with Sandfire’s global exploration standards.
  • Ensure geological datasets are appropriately validated, maintained, and applied, supporting sound geological interpretations and informed decision-making.
  • Manage discrete exploration project areas within the company’s Botswana tenements, with a focus on supporting the advancement of the Motheo Mine development and/or establishing a new mining hub.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate operational, technical, and logistical risks that could impact the success of exploration programs.
  • Provide on-the-ground support, mentoring, and skills development to the Botswana Exploration Team, with a focus on 3D modelling, data interpretation, and target generation.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical presentations and updates for internal stakeholders, executive management, and external partners as required.
  • Prepare and contribute to regular technical reporting covering exploration activities, licence status, and operational updates.
  • Foster a collaborative, transparent, and high-performance culture within both Sandfire and Tshukudu teams.

Technical Competencies:

  • Strong computer literacy skills in both standard business and geology specific software, essential
  • Strong and demonstrable competence in 3D Geological Modelling, and all aspects of Target Generation which require integration of data acquisition, integration and interpretation at differing scales from detailed, prospect/deposit scale through to regional basin scale
  • Sound knowledge of exploration methods and relevant Geological/Mineralisation models – of relevance include Sediment-hosted base metal deposits and IOCG mineralisation, essential

Qualification & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology.
  • 10+ years relevant mineral exploration and geological experience.
  • Exploration Management and a track record of skills-transfer/staff training/development.
