TRANSMISSION ASSISTANT ENGINEER (5 Year Contract & tenable in Tsabong)
Reporting to Transmission/Fibre Engineer, the incumbent will assist in maintaining uptime and quality of the telecommunications systems by undertaking periodic preventive maintenance activities. Ensure that maintenance and management of all faults is done efficiently and effectively.
Key performances areas
• Monitors and coordinates effective maintenance of faults
• Installs and maintains fibre optic cables and ensures that they are available at all times
• Installation and maintenance of active telecommunication equipment
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve network faults in an efficient and effective manner
• Ensures that all reactive maintenance is carried out in a timely manner
• Ensures that high-capacity fibre links are maintained and operated efficiently and effectively
• Ensures optimum availability of the network at all times
• Responds to failures within stipulated BOFINET response time
• Ensures that all customer complaints are handled efficiently and effectively in line with BOFINET standards

• Knowledge of the telecommunications connectivity environment
• Understand SDH basic principles as well as circuit inventory systems
• Knowledge of radio transmission technologies
• Understand IP, Ethernet and GPON basic principles
Qualifications & Experience
The candidates should have attained the following:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Information Communication Technology (ICT) or related field.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ post qualification experience in a telecommunications environment.
• Operational knowledge of transmission systems, splicing and fibre installation techniques, infrastructure maintenance and quality risk management procedures. A strong understanding of telecommunications platforms and technologies.
• Must have Class B driver’s license.
• Must be registered with Engineers Registration Board (ERB)
