Invitation to Join the Botswana Defence Force
Limited vacancies exist for Recruit Privates in the Botswana Defence Force (BDF).
Qualifications
- Potential candidates should possess BGCSE or equivalent with a minimum of 24 points (best of six subjects).
- Any other qualification(s) up to a maximum of Associate Degree / Higher Diploma or equivalent will be an added advantage.
NB: Bachelor’s Degree holders should not apply for this post.
Entry Requirements
- Botswana citizens, both males and females, in possession of a valid National ID card (Omang).
- Aged between 18–24 years.
- Physically and mentally fit in accordance with the BDF Recruitment Medical Standards.
- No criminal record.
- Minimum height: 160 cm for males and 155 cm for females.
- Minimum body weight: 55 kg for males and 45 kg for females.
- All candidates shall undergo a selection process including physical fitness assessment, comprehensive medical examination, and security clearance.
- Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of selection and during training.
- Body Art (Tattoos) should be concealed by military uniform and must not display extremism, indecency, sexism, or racism.
NB: Botswana Defence Force has established Mobile Recruitment Centres in Tsabong, Ghanzi, Maun, Kasane, Francistown, Palapye, and Gaborone (SSKB, Village Garrison, and Glen Valley Barracks) as the Main Centre. Candidates must indicate their preferred recruitment place in their applications.

Selection Process
All candidates will undergo:
- Comprehensive medical examination.
- Aptitude test.
- Physical fitness assessment (2.4 km run, push-ups, and sit-ups).
- Security clearance / vetting.
Mandatory Training
Successful candidates shall undergo 6 months Basic Military Training. Upon completion, Privates must be ready to serve in various geographical locations and environmental conditions.
