Independent Trustee – Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund
The Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) is a defined contribution pension fund established in 2001 to provide retirement benefits to public officers. Since its establishment, the Fund has experienced significant growth and currently serves approximately 165,000 members. As the Fund continues to grow and strengthen its governance, institutional capability and long-term sustainability, opportunities have arisen for suitably qualified and experienced professionals to contribute to enhanced accountability and good governance.
The Independent Trustee will work with the Board of Trustees to achieve the Fund’s strategic objectives and actively participate in Board and Committee meetings, contributing innovative ideas that support sustainable long-term results for members.
All candidates should possess relevant expertise and experience, and meet the underlisted requirements;
Eligibility:
The candidate must not be an employee of the Fund, its subsidiaries or related entities, or a service provider to the Fund. The candidate must not serve as an Independent Trustee on more than three (3) Funds at a time or carry on business or work that may create a conflict of interest.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree, preferably a master’s degree, in Investment Management, Actuarial Science, Risk Management, or an equivalent qualification such as Chartered Financial Analyst or Fellow Risk Management.
- At least ten (10) years’ managerial experience in the financial services sector, preferably specific experience in the retirement funds sector.
- Sound knowledge of corporate governance, investment, risk management, pensions and/or insurance.
- Ability to understand strategic issues and accept the legal duties, liabilities and responsibilities of a Trustee.
- Knowledge of the NBFIRA Act, Retirement Funds Act, Trust Act, Financial services laws, and other relevant legislation.
- Must be of good standing and eligible for approval by NBFIRA as a Trustee.
- Previous Board membership and trusteeship experience will be an added advantage.
Board tenure: Five (5) years.
