Regulatory Compliance Manager – FIRST CAPITAL BANK

The Regulatory Compliance Manager supports the Head of Compliance in developing, implementing, and maintaining an effective regulatory compliance framework across First Capital Bank Botswana. The role serves as the bank’s subject matter expert on regulatory compliance, ensuring the bank meets its obligations under all applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and execute risk-based compliance monitoring programmes across business units.
- Monitor and assess business processes for compliance with applicable laws, regulations, directives, and internal policies.
- Provide regulatory compliance advice and guidance to business units.
- Facilitate compliance workshops, awareness sessions, and staff training programmes.
- Promote a strong compliance culture and awareness of regulatory obligations throughout the bank.
- Maintain and update the Regulatory Universe, ensuring all applicable regulatory requirements are identified and tracked.
- Review and update compliance policies, procedures, and frameworks to reflect regulatory changes.
- Assess the impact of new and emerging regulations and support their implementation.
- Maintain the Compliance Risk Register and monitor regulatory compliance risks across the bank.
- Assess the likelihood and impact of compliance risks and recommend appropriate mitigating controls.
- Support regulatory examinations, inspections, audits, and engagements with regulators.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors on compliance-related matters and control effectiveness.
- Track and monitor the remediation of compliance findings and regulatory issues.
- Prepare and submit periodic compliance reports, including the Monthly Compliance Report, to management.
- Report on compliance risks, monitoring outcomes, regulatory developments, and remediation progress
Technical Skills & Competence:
- In-depth knowledge of the Banking Act and Bank of Botswana directives
- Understanding of Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) compliance principles and guidance.
- Proficiency in regulatory reporting and call report compilation
- Broad understanding of banking products and operational processes
- Understanding of internal audit and operational risk frameworks
- Ability to work with data and produce analytical compliance reports
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Postgraduate qualification in Compliance, Risk, or a related discipline is an advantage
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in banking compliance, regulatory affairs or audit
- Demonstrable experience in regulatory compliance monitoring and testing
- Experience liaising with regulatory bodies is an advantage
- Familiarity with Group-level compliance structures is an advantage
